In Hou Hsiao Hsien's homage to Albert Lamorisse's 1956 classic short film The Red Balloon, 7-year old Simon lives in Paris with his busy mother Suzanne (Juliette Binoche) who is weighed down by all sort of daily chores. His babysitter Song casts him in her film project which involves a man in green suit holding a red balloon as Simon goes about town.
